Are Fenix Flashlights Good?

In our modern world, companies are innovating and reinventing technology in a constant battle to either match or exceed each other. This doesn’t only apply to phones and laptops, but also to flashlights.

Fenix is an innovative company that has been one of the top players in the flashlight business for years now. Based in Shenzhen City, China, Fenix continues to thrive from where it started. Everything from design, to production, to quality control and logistics is run from the same facility, keeping their program tight. As with other consumer electronics, flashlights can be hard to compare, due to the inconsistency of quality and technology. Fenix was one of the first manufacturers to not only embrace but exceed ANSI standards, which help us compare more accurately.

Fenix produces a wide arsenal of flashlights in different sizes, power outputs and additional conveniences. Here’s one:

The PD36R is currently one of the most technologically advanced and complete flashlights available in the mid-range of the Fenix line-up. Like a sleek built highlight reel, it features many of the newest flashlight features and innovations in one simple package.

As a standard, the housing is built from durable aluminium which has been machined, making it anti-slip and anti-roll. Finally it has a rugged anodized finish. The head packs a massive 1600 lumen LED, capable of producing a brightness of 19.977 candela and a beam distance of 283 meters. The power is supplied by the include 5000mAh battery, which can be charged via the external USB-C port, so you don’t have to remove the battery to charge it.

The flashlight is activated through the tail cap switch. There are five brightness levels: 1600, 800, 350, 150 and 30 lumens. To cycle through the different brightnesses, there is the second switch which doubles as a charge indicator. As you turn the light on, it will be solid or flashing green or red depending on the four charge levels of the battery.

Finally, the PD36R has a bidirectional clip allowing it to be carried however you want, and comes with a 5-year warranty.

As do all Fenix Flashlights. Every Fenix flashlight is built with the same eye for detail and performance.
