Knife Deep Dive: Benchmade Redoubt

This is a fairly versatile pocket knife. It delivers reliable cutting performance at home, at work or in the field.

The features of the Benchmade Redoubt

With an overall length of 21 cm and a weight of 105 grams, the Redoubt is built somewhat like a larger and sturdier version of the Benchmade Bugout, in that it uses the Axis lock in combination with microliners. This gives it the solid latch for security while still reducing weight. But both the liners and the Grivory scales are longer and thicker on the Redoubt, giving it a more robust feel. The checkered green overlap on the handle makes it more grippy than the regular Grivory and gives it a bit more of an outdoor/military feel. The lanyard hole is easily big enough for 550 paracord lanyards.

The CPM-D2 blade provides a sturdy blade with solid edge retention. And for anyone concerned about corrosion, it has a nice gray Ceracoat coating to protect it from the elements. Second, it does not reflect light on military operations. Third, it looks great! The only thing to keep an eye on in terms of corrosion is the cutting edge itself. The edge is always the part that is not coated.

The Redoubt is also available in a combination where the cutting edge is partially serrated. This is great for cutting twine, twine or those pesky straps on packages. Plus, it's easy to operate with one hand via the ambidextrous thumb rest.

The deep-carry pocket clip is reversible from tip left to tip up right.
